Autonomous networks are not simply a technical evolution; they represent a transformative change in how networks operate, adapt and serve communications service providers (CSPs) and their customers. The goal is to develop intelligent systems that can make independent decisions without input from humans, leading to greater operational efficiency, improved customer experience and new revenues through innovative services.
To achieve that goal operators will need to reach level 4 on TM Forum’s six-level taxonomy – marking the shift from traditional human-defined automation processes to true autonomous decision-making. To that end there has been a great deal of collaboration among TM Forum members and the wider telecoms community over the past few years. In this Benchmark report we explore the progress CSPs and vendors are making as well as detailing the challenges ahead.
As part of our research we conducted a new survey that drew responses from 111 individuals at 82 companies. We also draw on research we have carried out throughout this year to provide a picture of where CSPs are now and what the future holds.
