Open Hack: Turn IoT dreams into business reality in 48 hours
In our new Insights Research report, The roadmap of options: Monetizing and managing IoE services, analyst Phil Bull writes,
“The Internet of Everything (IoE) has almost limitless potential to improve quality of life and create unimaginable wealth. By intelligently harnessing the huge amounts of data exchanged between billions of connected devices on a daily basis, the IoE will give rise to a market of applications that we haven’t even dreamed of yet.”
Maybe you have dreamed up some of them already, though. TM Forum’s latest Open Hack event, taking place in Lisbon next month, offers enterprise developers, entrepreneurs, product designers and data scientists the opportunity to work with expert mentors to turn your ideas into reality. After just 48 hours, you could walk away with the beginnings of a new revenue stream for your company, the seed of a new business or product idea, and, crucially, access to new tools, skills and contacts to make them happen.
A trillion-dollar opportunity
There are very real opportunities out there – with the convergence of societal and business problems that need to be solved and the evolution of technologies such as open APIs, platforms, virtualized services and digital payments – and the time to seize them is now. The value of the API-enabled economy is estimated at some $2.2 trillion by 2018 and these tools combined with the right talent can realistically reinvent whole industries: think Uber, Airbnb, Bla Bla Car and 02 Drive (02 Drive uses TM Forum Open APIs). Previous Open Hack winners have included an application to protect people and property from forest fires; a solution to connect people who have a garden to share and those who’d like use of one, creating new ways to grow food and collectively care for plants; and an integrated, automatized cleaning solution for public spaces. Many of the tools on offer at the Open Hack have also been incorporated into proof of concept Catalyst projects. These projects bring together companies large and small to rapidly create solutions to common challenges. We are seeing APIs demonstrated as part of the solution for orchestrating hybrid networks, enabling independent living through remote healthcare monitoring, unlocking the value of data in smart cities and complying with forthcoming GDPR regulation. Bringing your idea (or enthusiasm to come up with one) to an Open Hack event such as this one allows you to focus on getting results, fast. You’ll have access to building blocks such as a common underlying platform and TM Forum’s suite of 31 Open APIs, as well as expert mentors to provide feedback, a sounding board and encouragement. The Open Hack takes place as part of TM Forum’s member Action Week event, so you’ll also have the potential to get your product and talent noticed by some of the world’s leading communications service providers, cities and technology vendors – ideal if you’re looking for investors or ecosystem partners. The best applications from the Lisbon Open Hack will also be invited to participate in the TM Forum Live! Open Hack in Nice in May.
