My API Story: Transforming to a microservices strategy
Aligning with TM Forum’s Open API standard has accelerated Beesion's transformation to a microservices strategy. Ivan Esquivel, VP – Product Development, Beesion Technologies explains how.
Tell us about yourself and your job
Among other responsibilities, my main focus is to manage R&D and the product roadmap for Beesion’s portfolio while ensuring our products align with industry standards, business areas are empowered and less IT dependent, our roadmap is a step ahead of the curve in our fast-paced vertical and providing the highest quality and value to our customers in our products. Beesion Technologies is a business support systems (BSS) software vendor providing digital solutions that enable communication service providers (CSPs) in their BSS transformation into a digital service provider (DSP).
Why do you believe in TM Forum’s Open API program?
TM Forum’s Open API approach provides a desperately needed integration strategy which has been missing in the industry since the inception of BSS systems. The APIs provide guaranteed interoperability, quicker integration and faster delivery. One of the key advantages is alignment of the industry players; vendors, software integrators and communication or digital service providers.
What TM Forum Open APIs are most valuable to your company?
TMF620 - Product Catalog Management API
TMF622 - Product Ordering API
TMF629 – Customer API
TMF637 - Product Inventory Management API
TMF641 – Service Ordering
TMF648 - Quote Management API
TMF663 – Shopping Cart API
TMF666 - Account Management API
Why did you choose to highlight those APIs?
At Beesion we believe these APIs are the cornerstone to catalog driven BSS, which is essential for an omnichannel strategy and much-needed common integration for all DSPs and independent software vendors (ISVs).
How do you use the APIs?
Supporting these APIs in our product suite introduces a high level of strategic interoperability. Operators are readily able to plug in our solution to an Open API standards ecosystem with minimal effort. Operators can also focus on introducing components from different vendors with minimal risk and with the knowledge that the integration between components will guarantee their complete integration. Providing customers out-of-the-box integration to the Open API standard, operators can accelerate the deployment of a OSS/BSS stack, with the added benefit of being able to pick and choose their preferred vendor for a specific BSS function.
How have you benefited from using the Open APIs?
Aligning with TM Forum’s Open API standard has accelerated our transformation to a microservices strategy, elevating the
quicker integration, faster delivery, closer alignment to the Frameworx standard, aligning with a common language and understanding with our ecosystem of partners, integrators and customers.
Where do you use them?
Beesion provides a hybrid integration model by providing alternative integration methods. One method uses the TM Forum Open API standard, and the other exposes our own RESTFUL APIs. Both types will be available in our latest general release starting the second half of 2020 with a key implementation currently in flight for a service provider customer.
