This webinar,
The roadmap of options: Monetizing and managing the Internet of Everything (IoE) was one of the most lively ever and we even had one company signing up for TM Forum membership on the spot.
The webinar explored the chief findings of our new, original research report, of the same name as the webinar. It was commissioned by the Forum, and researched and written by independent consultant Phil Bull. He discussed the report’s findings with Craig Bachmann, Senior Director of the Open Digital Program, TM Forum during the webinar – then the fun really started with the Q&A session.
The included the topics of: IoE and orchestration; security, privacy and trust; risk management across ecosystems; and partnerships and platforms.
In particular, there was great interest in whether communications service providers are building platforms themselves or creating them in partnerships?
Bachmann commented that there are some 400 IoE platforms that focus on the Internet of Things (IoT) piece – that is, focused on device-to-device communications, primarily – whereas in the Forum’s view, we should be thinking in term of IoE, as it also includes processes and people.

Keeping your options open
Bull said that from his research, “Communications service providers are looking to partner, but it’s a mixture because there are those who want to retain their platform infrastructure. Generally speaking, though, CSPs want to open up APIs to be able to interwork and bring partners onboard to create this sort of partner ecosystem because they can’t do everything themselves. They simply don’t have the expertise to run and manage a new IoE service.”
