How did Türk Telekom grow broadband connections 500% during the Covid-19 lockdown?
All telecoms operators have seen a massive surge in broadband usage during lockdowns imposed to combat the spread of Covid-19, but how many have had to cope with a 500% increase in demand for new connections at a time when staff are struggling to adapt to new, virtual, working-from-home environments just to keep the core business up and running? This is the challenge Turkish multi-service operator Türk Telekom has been facing since mid-March.
The company met unprecedented demand for broadband connections resulting from pandemic lockdown through digitization of systems which allowed rapid setup for home workers and remote field operations. The result is that the company was able to install new broadband lines greatly increasing the level of new business activity.

“We have been modernizing the installation process for the last five years,” says Türk Telekom CTO Yusuf Kıraç. “We have equipped all our field technicians with mobile devices [with new phones and applications issued at the start of 2020], and the end-to-end installation process is now 90% automated.
