Digitally transformed society: The technologies and tools

Pethuru Raj, Chief Architect and Vice President, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Division, Reliance Jio will be discussing emerging digitalization technologies at Digital Transformation Asia this November in Kuala Lumpur. He shares some insights in the blog below before the big event.

Having understood the potential and growing power of digital and edge technologies, business and IT organizations across the globe are keen to embrace them. If leveraged smartly, these technologies can fulfill automation, acceleration and augmentation goals with ease. In the years to come, through the faster proliferation and conscious adoption of digital and edge technologies we will see:

  1. Millions of microservices (business-specific and agnostic)

  2. Billions of connected devices

  3. Trillions of digitized entities

These digitization and edge technologies (which I describe in further detail below) hasten the process of transitioning any physical, mechanical, and electrical systems into digital systems. These systems can easily connect and integrate with remotely held applications (cloud), and data sources, using intermediaries such as gateways, brokers and middleware solutions.

Any ordinary entity can become extraordinary. In other words, anything cheap and commonly found in our everyday environments (personal, professional and social) can become smart objects. Thus, the era of the internet of things (IoT) and cyber physical systems (CPS) is all set to flourish through a dizzying array of pioneering technologies towards the vision of ambient intelligence (AmI) and smarter environments. The list below details what is happening currently in tech to bring us to the digital future we’re being promised:

  • The emergence of blockchain technology has seen a few groundbreaking advancements across industry verticals. Using blockchain to secure IoT devices and data is especially promising.

  • There are also integrated platforms for big, fast, streaming and IoT data analytics

  • The power of machine and deep learning algorithms along with other noteworthy approaches and solutions in the artificial and augmented intelligence domains provide real time insights and data.

  • The digital intelligence tasks, which are all about extracting actionable insights out of digital data, are being realized through a litany of data analytics, processing, mining techniques and tips.

  • Even, analytics get automated through self-learning algorithms.

  • The faster adoption and adaptation of cloud technologies and tools, robust and resilient digital platforms are being deployed on cloud infrastructures, which are being positioned as the most optimized and organized digital infrastructure for the digital era.

The seamless and spontaneous convergence of digital and edge technologies in association with digital intelligence techniques is to accentuate and accelerate the journey towards digitally transformed cities and societies across the world in the years to unfold. The arrival of breakthrough technologies will substantially disentangle the complications that come with building, deploying, and sustaining next-generation cognitive systems.

This technology-inspired transition will bring forth innovation, disruption and transformation. The resulting digitally transformed business and IT systems that will have heightened impacts not only on businesses but also for institutions, individuals and innovators.
