DTW (Digital Transformation World)
In this interview at DTW Ignite, Ishwar Parulkar, CTO, Telecom and Edge Cloud at Amazon Web Services describes how he thinks AI is being used in telecoms infrastructure now and how it will evolve.
AWS outlines expected trajectory of GenAi and Agentic AI in telecoms
Ishwar Parulkar, CTO, Telecom and Edge Cloud at Amazon Web Services (AWS), comments we are “at a very transformational point in adoption of AI…in the telco industry.”
Last year saw prompt engineering, retrieval and augmented generation in action – human-assisted technologies to develop large language and foundational models. Now agentic AI is in expanding and will be adopted across more use cases, with multi-agent collaboration and supervisor agents coordinating activities in three broad categories.
First is better experience due to greater understanding of customers.
Next AI will boost employees’ productivity across business and engineering – agentic AI could create marketing content and campaigns, and competitive analyses. In finance, it couldgenerate budgets, produce forecasts and undertake risk management tasks.
The most important is network operations where telcos must invest to figure out how to apply the technology to a host of potential uses.
Telcos face two main challenges: understanding, managing and creating a suitable datainfrastructure to work with AI; and recruiting data scientists to manage the data and apply thenew technologies.
Telecoms is yet to address how agentic AI could boost revenues – Parulkar expects this in the next year.
