A fiber “gold rush” has swept across the industry in the past five years, with network operators backed heavily by private equity firms. Some fibercos are startups offering connectivity in one city or a few towns, while others are divisions of incumbent telcos that needed a dedicated wholesale organization that uses digital technologies to ensure they are customer-centric, flexible and scalable. Both types of operators are bringing in private investment to accelerate network deployment.
This report looks at how standards-based support systems and services can help fibercos digitize customer experience and increase automation. It draws on interviews with four companies: CityFibre, Eurofiber, Gigapower and Virgin Media Ireland (VMI).
