The growing importance of data governance
Communications service providers (CSPs) are increasingly using data to drive growth, which will require good quality governance. However, a survey for TM Forum's new report on data governance reveals that although respondents understand the need for data governance, program maturity across CSPs varies significantly. There are also interesting challenges on the horizon as telcos adopt machine learning and AI and diversity of data increases. Our research demonstrates a broad range of projects underway, with some respondents focusing on new technical projects and others working on structure and policies. Governance enables CSPs to mitigate the business risks associated with poor data management practices while enabling them to obtain value from their data and the use of data from other parties.
