Winning a contract to build and operate a neutral host network on a new Paris metro line involved juggling multiple stakeholder needs, as this case study explores.
Paris’ public transport system is undergoing its largest extension in decades with the construction of four new fully automated metro lines. An important element of the huge engineering project is the provisioning of 4G and 5G mobile services along the overground and underground sections of the route.
Neutral hosts will build and operate multiband distributed antennae systems (DAS) to provide service to France’s four mobile network operators. Doing so, however, will require towercos to balance telcos’ technical and service preferences with train companies’ network requirements, while meeting sustainability demands. In this case study we explore how French towerco, TDF, won the contract to construct a multiband DAS that is now entering construction phase.
